Latin NCAP scores the K4's FCA braking 11.72 of 12 for pedestrians

Latin NCAP's 2025 tests gave the Kia K4's FCA-Ped/Cyc braking 11.72 of 12 points for pedestrians and cyclists, with the obscured child at 89%. Its FCA-Car scored 8.25 points for interurban braking.

  • Not rated society

Pedestrians and cyclists stand to gain, but Latin NCAP reports track tests with dummies and no crash outcomes.

Depth runs from 1, a convenience or time saved, to 5, a life or a livelihood preserved.

Size

No magnitude yet: scale, reach, duration, distribution and frequency are not documented.

The system’s part
Not isolated. Latin NCAP tested the car with the system on and ran no test without it, so the scores describe the system on the track. Latin NCAP does not describe the sensors. Hyundai Motor Group writes that Hyundai and Kia's FCA uses the forward-facing camera and that its detection is machine learning-based, without naming the K4.
Learns from data

Not shown. Latin NCAP does not describe how the system detects pedestrians. Hyundai Motor Group's 2020 explainer says that Hyundai and Kia's FCA detection is machine learning-based, without naming the K4.

“The technology for detection is machine learning-based, and now with enough iterations, the system is one of the world's best in both recognition capabilities and response time.” Source

AI system

Workflow

Latin NCAP ran its pedestrian AEB scenarios on a K4 with FCA-Ped/Cyc fitted, within the system's 10 to 60 km/h range. The system scored 100% in three pedestrian scenarios, 89% for the obscured child and 100% for human-machine interaction.

Follow-up

Conditions for replication

The car has the optional pedestrian AEB fitted. The pedestrian or cyclist crosses or walks in the car's path as in the test scenarios.

Entry details

Sector

Road vehicle crash avoidance.

Purpose

Kia built Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist to warn the driver and brake automatically when a collision with a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist ahead becomes likely.
