What happened
His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services inspected Bedfordshire Police in its 2023-25 PEEL round and published the report on 29 January 2025. Under innovative practice, the inspectors wrote that the force is operating more efficiently because it has brought in new technology to investigate crime. They credited the force's relationship with Amazon Web Services with improvements in efficiency that let personnel finish administrative tasks faster. Among the projects, the force is developing a tool that uses artificial intelligence to bring together a range of databases in one place. The inspectors found that it saves officers and staff considerable time, and the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit already uses it to manage intelligence faster and in more detail. Once tested, the inspectors wrote, the technology will benefit local policing. The report names no product, gives no figure for the time saved and does not describe the AI technique. The inspectorate's summary adds that the force is in the early stages of using artificial intelligence to help build intelligence profiles and manage resources.

- Workflow
-
The force developed the tool through its culture of innovation and its relationship with Amazon Web Services. The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit used the tool to manage intelligence before any wider rollout.
Follow-up
- Conditions for replication
-
The databases must be accessible to the tool for it to bring them together in one place. Testing must finish before the tool is extended to local policing.
