What happened
The China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) published C-ICAP results for the Toyota bZ5's assisted driving on 12 March 2026. It tested the car under the revised 2024 edition of its protocol. The car ran assisted-driving software 4.00.35. It scored 96.0% for basic driving assistance, including 96.4% for collision avoidance and 98.0% for driver engagement. Combined control scored 84.0%. Highway navigation assistance scored 89.1%. In the English version of its 2024 C-ICAP rules, CATARC states that its management center selects cars on sale "based on market performance". The rules add that the center "will independently acquire them based on random principles" and that "CATARC sets up a special fund budget each year for vehicle purchases". In a notice of 26 August 2025, CATARC says that it bought the bZ5 from a FAW Toyota dealer under its own selection plan. CATARC states that the result holds only for the tested sample, software version and test environment. The page names no system supplier. CATARC does not mention AI.
