ADAC finds that FSD Supervised drives well in Denmark but still errs

In a two-hour drive in Denmark, ADAC found that Tesla's FSD Supervised drove very well over long stretches. It also made errors that would have failed it twice in a German driving test.

  • 1 for a person

Letting the car drive hands-free over long stretches was a convenience for the tester, and ADAC measured no safety outcome.

Depth runs from 1, a convenience or time saved, to 5, a life or a livelihood preserved.

Status
Partly reported benefit.
Evidence

found, the grade of this recordstudiedreportedclaimed

An independent assessment report supports the benefit.

The system’s part
Not isolated. ADAC drove with the system on and judged its behavior on the road. There was no comparison with driving without it. ADAC describes a cabin camera that watches the driver. It does not describe the driving software or show that the system learns from data.

Details

AI system

Workflow

The driver entered a destination and took his hands off the wheel. The system steered, accelerated, braked, turned, changed lanes and followed the route on its own. A cabin camera watched the driver so that the system could be used hands-free.

Follow-up

Conditions for replication

The driver watches the traffic and the system at all times and stays legally responsible. The country allows the system by special permit, as Denmark does.

Entry details

Sector

Road vehicle assisted driving.

Purpose

Tesla built FSD Supervised to steer, brake, turn, change lanes and follow a route while the driver supervises.
