What happened
E1.RU, a Yekaterinburg news outlet, reported on 5 June 2026 on a talk by the chairman of the LizaAlert volunteer search squad at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The chairman said that drone photographs became so numerous that volunteers could not review them in time. He said that Beeline joined the development of a neural network, which was trained on a large collected data set and made its first successful detections of people in 2019. He said that in 2024 the network for the first time found more people than the image-review group of more than 200 volunteers. He also said that the technology helped save a person in 2021. He gave no counts, and the article contains no check of his claims. Beeline's own news release of October 2020 says that the squad found a person lost in a forest with a drone and the network.

Details
AI system
- Workflow
-
Squad volunteers flew drones that photographed large areas, and one photograph can show tens of thousands of square meters. A neural network trained on a large collected data set flagged the few pixels that a person occupies. Beeline joined the development and built the system into real search operations.
Follow-up
- Conditions for replication
-
The squad has drone photographs in a volume that people cannot review in time. Volunteers act on the network's flags by sending a search group to the place.
