What happened
His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services inspected Dyfed-Powys Police in 2025-26 and published its PEEL report on 9 October 2026. The inspectors found that the force has a digital transformation strategy for using advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency and service provision. They wrote that by integrating tools such as artificial intelligence, cloud storage systems and data analytics, the force is improving decision-making and increasing productivity. Through the force's strategic planning and assurance cycle, any officer or member of staff can propose technology improvements, which a data, technology and innovation group reviews and costs. The report lists three automated areas: triage of safeguarding risks from Public Protection Notices, processing of firearms licensing renewals with background checks and case-file processing for high-volume, lower-harm crime. It does not say which of these use artificial intelligence. The force is also developing a system to identify people who may pose a risk to others or be at risk of harm. The inspectors name no AI product, give no figure for the gains and attribute them jointly to the three kinds of tool.

By integrating tools such as artificial intelligence, cloud storage systems and data analytics, the force is improving decision-making and increasing productivity.
The force has automated several operational areas, including using automation to: triage safeguarding risks from information in Public Protection Notices and support information sharing; process firearms licensing renewals and associated background checks; and speed up case-file processing and decision-making on high-volume, lower-harm crime.

- Workflow
-
The force integrated artificial intelligence, cloud storage systems and data analytics under a digital transformation strategy. Officers and staff proposed technology improvements through the strategic planning and assurance cycle, and an innovation group reviewed and costed them.
Follow-up
- Conditions for replication
-
The force must keep the planning cycle that turns staff proposals into funded technology changes. Each automated process must be checked, since the report gives no measure of the gains.
