What happened
Intel's Leixlip campus in Ireland employs more than 4,500 people. Intel introduced a Safety App that gives workers safety contacts and resources and a tool to report a 'good catch', an unsafe act or condition. It paired the app with CatchWise, which EU-OSHA describes as an AI chatbot that analyzes safety data and uses pattern recognition refined through machine learning. CatchWise automates the analysis of more than 35,000 good catch reports a year. The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work published the case study on 14 May 2025 as a commended entry in its 16th Healthy Workplaces Good Practice Awards. The case study reports a 50% decrease in first aid injuries and a 30% drop in serious injuries compared to the previous year. It also reports over 30,000 good catches and 11,000 safety walks logged in 2024. The figures are Intel's, and EU-OSHA does not say that it checked them. The case study credits the app and CatchWise together, with leadership support and a recognition program, so the AI's share is not separated.

Details
AI system
- Workflow
-
Workers logged more than 30,000 good catch reports in 2024 through the Safety App, giving CatchWise data to analyze. Senior managers promoted the tools, audited with the app and rewarded engagement during the launch.
Follow-up
- Conditions for replication
-
Workers must keep reporting hazards through the app, since CatchWise analyzes those reports. Managers must act on the trends and high-risk areas that the analysis identifies.

Workplace safety.
- Purpose
-
Intel built the Safety App and CatchWise to give workers access to safety information, simplify hazard reporting and identify safety risks from the reports before they lead to injuries.
