What happened
Smartick is an adaptive math learning platform from a Spanish company. Jorge Alonso Díaz Porras, of the Colegio Nacional de Educación a Distancia in Costa Rica, studied a teaching strategy built on it. He gave 192 eleventh-grade students at a public school in Costa Rica a diagnostic test on mathematical functions. The students then worked with Smartick and took a final test. He reports that scores rose after the intervention, with Bayes factors that favored higher post-test performance. Boys and girls improved by the same amount, and boys scored higher than girls on the final test. The study had no control group, so teaching between the tests may explain part of the gain. The abstract gives no effect size and does not name the school or say who taught the students. It calls Smartick AI-based without describing its model. The article appeared in Revista Digital: Matemática, Educación e Internet on 26 January 2026.

It is concluded that the AI-based adaptive learning platform, Smartick, enhances students' knowledge of mathematical functions and improves their performance.
Details
AI system
- Workflow
-
Students took a diagnostic test on mathematical functions before the intervention. They then worked with the Smartick adaptive platform and took a final assessment test.
Follow-up
- Conditions for replication
-
Students must work with the platform's activities between the diagnostic and final tests. The platform's content must cover the topic taught, here mathematical functions in eleventh grade.

Education.
- Purpose
-
Smartick built its adaptive learning platform to personalize mathematics practice with artificial intelligence.
