What happened
Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission jointly inspected special educational needs and disability (SEND) services in Brent from 27 to 31 January 2025. They published their report on 27 March 2025. The inspectors found that children with SEND wait too long for neurodevelopmental assessments and specialist therapy. They wrote that child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) had made progress in reducing waits by investing in resources such as additional clinicians. One example that they give is that CAMHS use AI to reduce the administration time taken to produce reports. The report gives no figures and does not say what inspectors saw of this use. It does not name the tool or separate its share of the progress. The inspectors still asked the NHS North West London Integrated Care Board to reduce the lengthy waits.
