What happened
Euro NCAP, the European New Car Assessment Programme, published its assisted driving grading for the Mazda CX-80 on 4 June 2025. It tested Cruising & Traffic Support, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane guidance. The system reads speed limits from maps and real time camera inputs. Among road features, it adapts its speed only for stop signs. The car avoided or mitigated a collision in most of the automatic cruise control scenarios. Through an S-bend, it stayed in its lane at all test speeds. With an unresponsive driver, it made a controlled stop in its lane. Euro NCAP found that the car's direct driver monitoring system detects fatigue and some types of distraction. It judged the sensing of the driver's hands on the wheel not robust. It scored the system 79% for safety backup and 62% for assistance competence and graded it Good. No crash outcome on public roads is reported. Euro NCAP does not mention machine learning.

'Cruising & Traffic Support', as fitted to the Mazda CX-80, performs well for Driver Engagement, slightly worse for Vehicle Assistance. Combined with a good level of Safety Back-Up, the system, overall, offers Good highway assistance.
The car's direct driver monitoring system detects fatigue and some types of distraction.

AI system
- Workflow
-
The system combined map-based speed limit information with real time camera inputs. A direct driver monitoring system detected fatigue and some types of distraction. It balanced the driver's steering input with lane guidance.
Follow-up
- Conditions for replication
-
The driver slows for curves and junctions, since the system adapts its speed only for stop signs among road features. The driver keeps hands on the wheel, since the car's sensing of hands was not robust and it does not lock out the system after repeated warnings.
