What happened
The Care Quality Commission assesses how English councils meet their duties under the Care Act. Its assessment of Swindon Borough Council was published on 6 February 2026. Staff praised an AI notes tool that they used for support plans and assessments. In one example, the Transitions Team assessed an unpaid carer with a face-to-face interpreter. Staff then used the AI tool to translate the completed assessment into a different language. The Commission reports that the carer appreciated the tool because it had simplified the process. On another page, the Commission reports that some partners saw better collaboration and communication with social workers, partly through AI-supported note-taking. The assessment does not name the tool and gives no figures. The Commission rated Swindon's adult social care as good.
