What happened
Digital Green built Farmer.Chat, an AI chatbot that answers farmers' voice, text and image questions and gives regional weather updates. Digital Green commissioned 60 Decibels to survey its users in Kenya. In July and August 2025, the firm's researchers interviewed 450 farmers by phone, sampled at random from Digital Green's list of 7,131 contacts. Seven in 10 said that they had applied Farmer.Chat's advice in the previous 30 days. Two thirds said that they took an action or decision on their farm because of the answer to a recent query. When 60 Decibels compared these accounts with the chatbot's logged answers, 49% of the farmers had taken an action that matched the answer fully or partly. Nearly all (96%) said that their way of farming had improved. All outcomes are self-reported, the response rate was 19% and the survey had no comparison group. The report notes that over half of the users surveyed held a university or higher degree.
