What happened
A 2023 law let French police and transport operators test algorithmic video analysis at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and other events. A statutory committee chaired by Christian Vigouroux evaluated the experiment and reported in January 2025. Its members included the Paris police prefect or a representative. The prefecture ran Wintics software on tactical cameras at Olympic sites, and alerts went to operators in the command room. From its own visits, the committee saw real operational value only in some settings, such as where the area was too large for enough human presence. At Vaires-sur-Marne no patrols were posted on a large uninhabited island near the venue. Bicycle patrols could reach alerts quickly there, and drones helped check them. The committee counts one intervention owed to the AI at that site, for an intrusion. In the Paralympic Games, 55 of the prefecture's detections had operational value and led the command room to act. The prefecture chose not to keep statistics during the Olympics. Fire and fallen-person detection performed very poorly.

Inquiry report, by an evaluator that the makers or users commissioned.

The prefecture set up tactical cameras for each event within a few days. Operators in the command room received the alerts. At Vaires-sur-Marne, bicycle patrols and drones checked the alerts.
Follow-up
- Conditions for replication
-
The area is too large for patrols to cover. Staff can reach an alert quickly. The scene is lit well enough for the software.
