What happened
A 2023 law let French police and transport operators test algorithmic video analysis at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and other events. A statutory committee chaired by Christian Vigouroux evaluated the experiment and reported in January 2025. Its members included the heads of RATP and SNCF or their representatives. On the Paris metro and RER, Wintics software flagged intrusions and other events to RATP operators. During the Olympics RATP counted 1222 true and 324 false intrusion alerts, 11 of them relevant for operations. The committee found that the tool was useful only where staff could respond quickly. It cited RATP, which halved its intervention time from the alert. RATP escalated only 14 of its Olympic alerts to its security command post and put that down to the many security teams on site. Its abandoned-object alerts were over 78% false. The committee gives no baseline for the halved time.

Inquiry report, by an evaluator that the makers or users commissioned.

Inquiry report, by authors with no tie to the system.

The software flagged intrusions on camera feeds to RATP operators. Operators checked each alert and sent teams when needed. The vendor trained the models before deployment.

-
Staff can reach the spot quickly after an alert. The site has fewer security teams than the main Olympic venues.

Wintics built its algorithmic video processing to alert operators to predetermined events in camera images, such as people entering forbidden zones.
