What happened
The RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority, approved Tesla's FSD Supervised driving aid for the Netherlands in April 2026. On 17 June 2026, a day after the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management explained the approval in parliament, the RDW set out how it had reached it. The RDW checked how Tesla collected its data, and its data experts independently checked Tesla's statistical analysis. For the assessment, data from recent Teslas without the system were compared with data from test vehicles that had it. The RDW also ran more than 1,000 test runs over more than 3,000 hours on test tracks and public roads. It judged the system at least as safe as other driving aids because it strictly monitors the driver. For now, the RDW has raised the required reporting on the system from yearly to monthly. It reported that almost 40,000 Teslas had driven about 24 million km with the system in the Netherlands without relevant incidents. The RDW gives no results from the statistical comparison and does not define a relevant incident. It does not describe the AI.
