What happened
Learning Genie is a planning and documentation platform for educators from preschool through grade 12. Evidence for ESSA, the clearinghouse of the Center for Research and Reform in Education at Johns Hopkins University, rates its math and reading programs Promising. Both ratings rest on one quasi-experimental study in the 2024-25 school year with 366 prekindergarten and kindergarten children in several schools. Most of the children were Hispanic and from economically disadvantaged families. Children in classrooms that used Learning Genie grew more on the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), with effect sizes of +0.12 in language and literacy and +0.12 in math. Results on social and emotional outcomes were mixed. The positive effects reached statistical significance at the student level. At the classroom level they did not. The same center at Johns Hopkins conducted the study, and the page does not say who commissioned it. The platform's AI tools help teachers design units and plan lessons, and the page does not describe the model behind them.
