What happened
French professionals with anti-money-laundering and tax-fraud reporting duties send their reports to a service of the economy and finance ministry. The Cour des comptes does not name the service, and the description fits Tracfin, the ministry's financial intelligence unit. The Cour's annex lists two systems of this service as deployed. One corrects and integrates incoming reports, and the other routes them to the right analysis teams. In observations published on 22 October 2024, the Cour found that the labeling and routing of these reports had been automated. It found that this use of AI let the service move 25 agents to investigative work while reports kept rising. The Cour adds that this is the only one of 13 systems in service at the ministry for which such a redeployment is documented precisely. The Cour describes neither the technique nor its accuracy.
