The military police of Minas Gerais, Brazil, links facial recognition to its video monitoring. Cameras on public streets send images in real time to a control center, where they are compared with the information in the force’s systems. The state’s news agency reported on 5 November 2026 that more than 2,500 people with open arrest warrants had been located and arrested with the tool’s support since the start of 2025. It says that about 70% of them were wanted for crimes such as drug trafficking, robbery, homicide and rape. In May, an alert led officers within minutes to a man in central Belo Horizonte with seven open warrants. The figures are the state’s own. The report gives no count of false alerts or of people stopped in error.
Not isolated. The state credits the tool with support in the arrests but does not separate its part from officers’ work, and it gives no count of false alerts.
