"account": "Ní Chasaide, Barnes, Ní Chiaráin, McGuirk, Morrin, Nic Corcráin and Cummins of the ABAIR initiative described three assistive applications of ABAIR's Irish speech technology. This was at the Ninth Workshop on Speech and Language Processing for Assistive Technologies (SLPAT-2022, 27 May 2022). The first is “A screenreading facility for Irish has been developed as a plugin for the NVDA screenreader, prompted by urgent pleas from parents and grandparents of visually impaired children in the Gaeltacht or attending Irish-medium schools”. Only three books existed in Irish Braille for them. “With funding from the National Council for the Blind in Ireland (NCBI) a blind researcher worked with the ABAIR team to develop the NVDA screenreader plugin”. It adds Braille output through the Liblouis translator and lets users choose a male or female voice and the reading speed. The paper states “The system was extensively tested with visually-impaired school children and a full technical description is available in McGuirk (2005)”. The reference list has McGuirk 2015, an M.Phil. dissertation. It names no child, school, date or measured result and describes the voices as text-to-speech synthesis without stating the synthesis method. No source independent of the developers was found.",

No source independent of the developers was found."
