"account": "The Associated Press reported on 4 May 2026 that artificial intelligence detected something resembling smoke on a camera feed from Arizona's Coconino National Forest. The report is by Dorany Pineda and Brittany Peterson, on record in the KPBS and Courthouse News republications. The detection came on a March afternoon. One of dozens of AI cameras installed for the utility Arizona Public Service had spotted early signs. The fire came to be known as the Diamond Fire. Firefighters raced to the scene and contained it before it grew past 7 acres (2.8 hectares). AP says APS has nearly 40 active AI smoke-detection cameras and plans 71 by summer's end. APS meteorologist Cindy Kobold says the technology notifies the utility about 45 minutes faster on average than the first 911 call. Pano AI, launched in 2020 and charging around $50,000 a year per camera, counts APS among its customers. It says it detected 725 wildfires in the US last year. AP does not state outright which company made the camera that spotted the Diamond Fire. The Arizona Daily Sun (staff report, 26 March 2026) reports that a small fire later named the Diamond Fire began shortly after 2 p.m. on Thursday. It started just north of Lake Mary Road, about three miles south-east of Lake Mary Road and Beulah Boulevard. That is south of Pine Canyon Golf Club and east of Flagstaff Pulliam Airport. It reached seven acres by 3:16 p.m. according to WatchDuty. Its forward progress was stopped at 3:37 p.m., about 80 minutes after the first report, and it was 100% contained at 6:09 p.m. The Daily Sun does not mention a camera, the Coconino National Forest or who made the first report. The two accounts are matched by the fire's name, month and size. No official incident record naming the camera was found; InciWeb's “Diamond Fire” is a June 2023 Scottsdale fire. The Daily Sun reported the fire that Thursday.",

The Daily Sun reported the fire that Thursday."
